William Ralph Mcgill

It is with great sadness that we must announce the loss of our dear father, William Ralph McGill. He passed on August 4, 2023 at 89 years young. He was a loving father and grandfather. He left behind two daughters, Katherine Schantzen and her husband, Patrick, Karen Gregory and her husband, Joseph. One brother, James McGill and his wife, Susan. A sister-in-law, Carol Hanner. Four grandchildren: Brian Schantzen, Jacqueline Fehnel and her husband, Eric, Sean Gregory, and Kevin Gregory as well as nieces and a nephew. All will miss him dearly.

William was born in Buffalo, New York. He lived in the Buffalo area until his family moved to Ohio when he was in high school. After graduating high school, he attended Miami University in Ohio graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. It was at college that he met the love of his life, Barbara McManus, and married her in February of 1956. Bill and Barb enjoyed 54 years together as husband and wife.

Upon graduating college in June of 1956, he was also appointed as First Lieutenant Reserve Officer of the US Air Force and was later appointed as a Captain.

Barb and Bill then settled in Parma, Ohio to raise their family. Dad worked as an accountant at Republic Steel. In 1970 the family moved to Westfield, New Jersey where he took another accounting job at Canrad Hanovia in Newark, New Jersey.

Bill and Barb then retired to Osprey, Florida in 1996. It was here that Dad could really pursue his favorite pastime, Golf. He had a wonderful group of friends from their condo community in Pine Run. They formed a regular foursome to enjoy the love of the game. He got his first hole in one at the Sarasota Country Club on January 6, 2000. He continued to play golf well into his mid-eighties.

There will be a Visitation on Saturday August 26, 2023 and will be from 2:30-3:30 with a short memorial service at 3:00 at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home on N. 5th Street in Stroudsburg, PA.
