  • William Brian "Bill" McGovern, affectionately known as "Bill" to most and "The Groovy Dude" to

a special few, passed away on July 5, 2026, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 67.

Born on April 11, 1959, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Bill lived a life defined by kindness, laughter,

hard work, and generosity. He was the beloved son of the late Donald E. and Mary G.

McGovern.

Bill was the proud owner of Top Coat Painting and Wallpapering for more than 30 years before

retiring in 2024. He took great pride in his work and built lasting relationships with customers

who became friends.

Known as a gentle giant, Bill had an easy smile, a warm heart, and a gift for making everyone

feel at ease. He was always ready with a kind word, a listening ear, or a shoulder to lean on for

friends and strangers alike. He loved spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter,

enjoying a pint or two, and making memories with the people he cared about.

A devoted sports fan, Bill faithfully cheered for the New York Knicks, New York Giants, and New

York Mets. He was especially thrilled to see the Knicks' recent success, something that brought

him great joy.

Bill is survived by his siblings: Frank McGovern and his wife, Grace; Coleen Groenendaal;

Terence McGovern and his wife, Pam; Kathleen Peri and her husband, Joe; and Michael

McGovern and his wife, Gina. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Terry

McGovern, wife of his late brother, Donald McGovern, as well as 15 nieces and nephews and 5

great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Donald McGovern, and his

brother-in-law, Richard Groenendaal.

A graveside interment service will be held at Prospect Cemetery in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania,

on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited and to gather afterward

from 3 to 5 PM at the Wander Inn (2080 Milford Road East Stroudsburg) to celebrate Bill's life,

share stories, and honor the memories of a man whose kindness touched so many.

Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous spirit, infectious smile,

unwavering friendship, and the love he shared so freely. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all

who were fortunate enough to know him. His laughter, generosity, and gentle spirit will be

forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
