William John Burns

William J Burns, 79, of Shawnee on Delaware loving husband of Irene (Verba) Burns, passed away of Friday August 26, 2016.   Born August 18, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey is the son of the late John and Margaret (McMullen) Burns. William worked as a  Food & Beverage Manager at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort for many years and later worked for Weiss Markets .   William was a member of Saint Matthews Catholic Church.; and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force along with being a member of the Avoca American Legion Post 607.  He is survived by his 2 sons, John J. Burns and his wife Christine of Schwenksville, Christopher P. Burns and his wife Erica of Chester Springs; his daughter Kellyann Burns and her husband Dave Dilly of Los Angeles, California.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Courtney, John William, Andrew, Molly and Owen Burns; and his sister Helene Burns-Quaglia of Duryea.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Church of Saint Matthew, 200 Brodhead Avenue, East Stroudsburg with Father Gerald W. Shantillo as celebrant.  Burial with military services will follow in Saint Peter and Paul Eastern Greek Catholic Cemetery, in Freeland PA.  There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 10:00am until the time of the mass at church.  The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg is in charge of the funeral arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:  Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy family Residence,  2500 Adams Avenue, Scranton PA 18509-1515
