William Anthony Mancuso, 85, of Greentown, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 6, 2025, surrounded by his family. William was the loving husband of Susan (Carter) Mancuso for 48+ years. Born on July 24, 1939, in Archbald, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Esther (Wonnacott) Mancuso. After graduating from Archbald High School, William began his college career playing football at Penn State University. He later earned his undergraduate degrees in Science, Social Studies, and English from Rutgers University, followed by a Master’s degree in Education. Throughout his more than 40-year career in public education, William had a profound impact as both a teacher and an administrator. He began his career as a Chemistry teacher and later advanced to Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent in New Jersey and Vermont. As County Superintendent of Warren County, NJ, his crowning achievement was the creation and implementation of the Warren County Special Services School District, which provided vital services for handicapped students in the county. In his “retirement,” William served as an adjunct professor at Ramapo College and at East Stroudsburg University, where he taught Education classes and supervised student teachers pursuing their certification through the “Alternate Route.” In his personal life, William enjoyed reading anything in print, dancing, listening to music, fishing, golfing, cooking, watching Penn State football games, and occasionally sailing as a first mate. Once fully retired, he and Susan traveled the country in their RV. When the weather turned chilly in PA, Bill & Sue fled the cold temps and found solace in their home in FL; trading lakes and trees for the ocean and sand. In addition to his beloved wife, William is survived by his four daughters: Carla Mancuso, Antonia Wright (Dave), Gina Sidhu (Paul), and Nicole Todd (Shayne), along with his granddaughter Jillian Wright, grandsons Ryan and Ranj Sidhu, and great- grandson Baker Reed Sidhu. A fiscal conservative and social liberal, William was known for his incredible character as an educator, husband, father, and grandfather. He always put family first and was a regular contributor to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital. Should you choose to make a donation in his memory, it would honor his lifelong dedication to helping others. Donations may be made via St Jude’s website stjude.org. As per William’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, Stroudsburg, PA, is in charge of his arrangements.
