William A. Johnson “AJ”

Age 61, Newfoundland, PA

AJ Johnson, age 61, was called home to be with his Lord on March 23, 2025, peacefully

at his home in Newfoundland, PA.

Born on July 2, 1963, in East Stroudsburg, PA, he was the son of Rita Johnson and the

late William A. Johnson.

AJ was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by

his mother, Rita Johnson of Stroudsburg; daughters Mary Johnson of Philadelphia and

Sarah Johnson of Old Forge, PA, with granddaughter Mia; his brother and sister-in-law

Donald Johnson and Tarah Probst of Stroudsburg; nieces Ayla and Lili; nephews Jack,

Ray, and Hunter; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his

brother, Douglas Johnson, in 1993.

AJ was born and raised in Stroudsburg and was a 1981 graduate of Stroudsburg High

School. He then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was the

proprietor of DJ Automotive Service Center in East Stroudsburg for many years before

founding and becoming the proprietor of Renegade’s Saloon in Newfoundland since

2012. He loved running his bar and building his community, motorcycling on his Harley

Davidsons, NASCAR and dirt track racing, and road trip traveling throughout the

country.

AJ was known for being the kindest and most generous person anyone could have the

good fortune to know. As a pillar of his community and one of the greatest friends

anyone could ask for, his loss is not just a personal tragedy but a devastating blow to all

who knew him. He cared deeply for others and spread love and compassion wherever

he could. Whether organizing charitable events for families in need, providing free

meals to patrons on holidays, or supporting the local Fire Company and EMS, AJ

consistently demonstrated that giving was more important than receiving. His actions

spoke volumes, and he led by example.

AJ brought joy and happiness to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He

lived life to the fullest, always on his own terms, and with unique and admirable qualities

that made him unforgettable. His unwavering faith was an inspiration.

A celebration of life ceremony and gathering of family and friends will be scheduled at a

later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg in
