Upali S. Samaratunge

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Upali Samaratunge, age 81, of East Stroudsburg, PA. Upali passed away peacefully at the Lehigh Valley Hospice House in East Stroudsburg on March 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 3rd, 1943, in Kandy Sri Lanka, he was a devoted husband, father, and a grandfather. Upali worked as a Fire Crew Chief for many years in Midway Islands Honolulu Hawaii. He had a special way of welcoming people with open arms and never forgot to feed them. He was a great host to all rich or poor. Upali is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Indra Samaratunge. His older son who lives in Sir Lanka Chaminda Samaratunge and the family. Second son Sampath Samaratunge and daughter in law Kinithi Weerasinghe from Hawthorne NJ and loving daughter Chamali Flagg, son in law George Flagg and granddaughter Emma Flagg from East Stroudsburg PA. A viewing and Buddhist Blessing will be held on Saturday March 29th at 2pm to 6 pm at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home in 401 N 5th St, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 for family and friends. May Upali be free from suffering, find peace, and be guided to a blessed rebirth!
