Thomas “Tom” Gaetano Bonfiglio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 12, 2021 at the age of 89. He was born on May 3, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of six children born to Filippo and Angelina (Nera) Bonfiglio. Upon graduating from Franklin K. Lane High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War as a medic. Achieving his final rank as a Staff Sergeant, he was honorably discharged and immediately went to college. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Ohio University and graduated from Columbia University, with a Masters of Arts degree in Social Work. Tom loved helping and advocating for those who couldn’t do it for themselves. He held many positions as a licensed clinical social worker for the city of New York over his 25 year. He worked in adoption and foster care and tirelessly helping homeless veterans. Upon leaving as a top administrator for the City of New York. He took a social work position at a geriatric psychiatric hospital a little closer to his home in New Jersey. When he moved to Pennsylvania he started his own private practice and supervised social work students from Marywood University who were in field placement. Above all, he loved his family and friends the most. He loved classical music, opera and even played the clarinet. In his later years, he found a passion for painting and sketching and had become quite accomplish in it. He is survived by his son, Mark Thomas Bonfiglio and daughter-in-law, Danielle Fleming, of Dunmore Pennsylvania; Sister Anna Esposito of South Carolina and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa S Bonfiglio; daughter Andrea S Bonfiglio; sisters Carol Amato, Vicki Gallo and brothers Joe Bonfiglio, Frank Bonfiglio. His passion, kindness and loving spirit will live one through the lives of many. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 16, 2021 from 5-7pm at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home N. 5th St. Stroudsburg, PA 18360. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 9am at The Church of St. Matthew, 78 Ridgeway St. East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Internment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Meriden, CT.
