Suzanne Allen, 76, of East Stroudsburg, passed away on December 15th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and a more recent acute illness.
Born in Tarentum, PA on February 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Robert “Tut” and Eva Audrey Mills. After graduating from Neshannock High School in 1965, she began college at Ohio Wesleyan College. In 1966, Suzanne married Robert Allen. Suzanne and Robert went on to have two daughters, Kimberly and Lisa. Although she and Robert would eventually divorce, they remained lifelong friends.
It wasn’t until many years later that she would earn her degree in Mathematics Education from East Stroudsburg University. In the spring of 1986, she began her teaching career at East Stroudsburg High School, where she remained until her retirement in 2012. She wore her purple and white with pride and made many close friends during her time at South High School.
Even after retirement she tutored many high school students preparing them for SAT’s or helping them to improve their grades in various math courses. Teaching was definitely in her blood and she passed that passion on to her daughters. Although she loved teaching, perhaps nothing other than family was more beloved than her Pittsburgh Steelers. She traveled a few times each season to go see them play and wore that black and gold as much as possible. Her other hobbies included gardening- spending hours perfecting her rose garden and flowers around her backyard pool, cross-stitch, swimming, reading, baking and loving on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Suzanne is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Wood and husband Anthony; daughter, Lisa Tirjan and husband, Timothy; granddaughter, Becca Lameo and husband, Christopher; granddaughter, Rachael Tirjan; grandson, Jacob Tirjan; great grandchildren, Benjamin Lameo, Caleb Lameo and Blair Lameo; brother, Phil Mills and wife Kim Mills; brother, Larry Mills; and several nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home in Stroudsburg on Thursday, December 21st from 3:00-6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at East Stroudsburg United Methodist on Friday, December 22nd at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
