Robert Purves Widaman Robert "Bob" Purves Widaman of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, formerly of Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania passed away on July 15, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Manor. Bob was born on May 11, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Janette Purves Widaman and Paul Alexander Widaman. He was married to Hazel Spicer Widaman for 63 years until her death in 2014. He was predeceased by his only son, Robert P. Widaman, Jr. in 2012. He was also predeceased by his siblings Donald W. Widaman, Estella W. Weiss and Raymond P. Widaman. He is survived by his daughter, Janet W. Primrose and her husband, Mark, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and by his sister, Jean W. Mager of Peru, Illinois. He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Sarah Primrose of Atlanta, Georgia, Rachel (and husband Matthew) Vanlandingham of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Emily Primrose of Nashville, Tennessee, his daughter-in-law, Valerie Widaman Inman, great grandson, Wesley Vanlandingham and many nieces and nephews. Bob was a member of the Greatest Generation. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Army. He received his diploma from Wellston High School, attended art school in St. Louis, and attended both the University of Maryland and the University of Scranton. After retiring from the Tobyhanna Army Depot, Bob enjoyed gardening and spending time with his granddaughters. Volunteerism was an important activity for Bob. He was a gallon plus blood donor for the American Red Cr. He served Board Member and hunter for the M.Pocon Chapter of the YMCA. He was an active member of the Mt. Pocono Park and Recreation Board and spent countless hours preparing the “Field of Dreams” for recreation. He remained an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) into his later years. Graveside services will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:30 am followed by a remembrance brunch at the Ragged Edge Coffee House nearby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Pleasant Valley Manor at 4227 Manor Drive, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 18360.
