Robert James Svopa Sr.

Picture Robert James Svopa Sr, 85, of Stroudsburg, passed away on November 7, 2021 at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus, He was the husband of the late Carolee Ann (Rohde) Svopa, who passed on December 29, 2016. Born on April 12, 1936 in New York, New York the of the late August and Mary (Kalinyak) Svopa. He was a resident of Monroe County since 1987 and prior to that of Blairstown, New Jersey. He was a member of the Church of Saint Matthew and also the Tin Can Society. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he worked in maintenance at M&M Mars in Hackettstown for many years. Robert loved to paint by numbers; and catching up with his old Navy buddies. Robert is survived by his children, Robert J. Svopa Jr. and his wife Dianne of Marshalls Creek, Susan M. Russo and her husband Gene of Hackettstown, New Jersey and Michael J. Svopa and his wife Mildred of Kunkletown. His granddaughter Alena Marie Russo. He is also survived by his brother Richard Svopa and his wife Mary Agnes of Lighthouse Point, FL.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Dana Lynn Russo and his brother Gerald Svopa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 13, 2021 at 10:30am at the Church of Saint Matthew, 200 Brodhead Avenue, East Stroudsburg, with Father Donald Williams as celebrant: Military Honors will follow the mass. There will be a viewing on Friday November 12, 2021, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg. Burial of his cremated remains will be interred at the convenience of the family in the Ramseyburg Cemetery, Knowlton Township, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Robert’s name to a Veteran’s Charity of one’s choice.
