Robert Henry Handelong, 73, of Stroudsburg, passed away on Saturday October 8, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Linda (Stout) Handelong, they were married July 25, 1965. Born November 26,1942 in Meyers Crossing, Northampton County the son of the late Paul and Bertha (Ziegafuse) Handelong, he was a resident of Monroe County for his lifetime. He attended the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church. He was a jack of all trades and never sat still, he worked at Stoddard’s Slate Quarry in Wind Gap; the Pocono Foundry, was a Mason Tender for Hartman’s Masonary, several textile mills in Monroe County worked as a groundskeeper for Stroudmoor Country Inn and as a Maintenance man at Kmart in East Stroudsburg. He loved farm on is sisters farm, where he helped butcher beef, pigs and chickens and bale hay, he also liked to hunt. In addition to his wife, is survived by his daughter, Julie Tarver and her husband Sheldon of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and his son Kerry Handelong of Stroudsburg; his 2 grandchildren Rebecca Lynn and Nicholas James Herring and their father Jeff K. Herring. He was one of nine children and his siblings were Stanley, Helen, Paul, Lillian, Robert, Clifford, Sherwood and Isabel. Funeral services will be held on Sunday October 16, 2016 at 3:30pm at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, with Pastor Paul Crikeliar officiating. Cremation will follow. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 2:30pm until the time of the services at the funeral home.
