Robert Floyd Cyphers

Robert Floyd Cyphers, 90, passed away on April 17th, 2026 at Monroe County Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born August 24, 1935 in Bartonsville, PA to Floyd Oliver Cyphers and Mildred Irene Hess Cyphers. He graduated from high school in Tannersville, PA and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University in 1957. Later that year, he married Marjorie Ann Yandow, and they celebrated 63 years together before her passing in 2021. Robert started his employment in Maryland with Martin Company and worked on Vanguard I, the second successful U.S. satellite and the oldest artificial satellite still in orbit. His career next brought him to Sylvania where he travelled around the country on project ACTOR, and then to Greenland and Alaska for BMEWS. While at Sylvania he also held positions in both New York and Massachusetts. He worked on the first digital flight simulator computer, UDOFT, MOBIDIC, a mobile computer that fit in a trailer, and cryptographic systems. After his father died in 1967, he moved to Stroudsburg, PA and took over Cyphers Electric, (aka Appliance Doctor.) Aside from a love of flying small planes and travelling in his motor home with his family and dogs, Robert always kept himself busy through the involvement of various side businesses, some of which included his brother Leroy Cyphers. Robert is survived by his son David Scott Cyphers (wife Michelle) of California and daughter Diane Crowe (husband Scott) of Massachusetts; grandchildren Soreen Lee, Thomas Crowe, Jacqueline Crowe-Putz, Chames Cyphers, and Victoria Crowe; five great-grandchildren, and nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A funeral is planned for Tuesday August 4th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Reeders United Methodist Church, followed by a small service at Custards Cemetery in Bartonsville and a private gathering later.
