Picture Richard J. Gaunt, 87, of Stroudsburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday November 5, 2016 at the Old Orchard Health Care Center, Easton. He was the husband of Elizabeth “Betsy” (Walton) Gaunt, they were married February 26, 1949. Born in North Bergen, New Jersey the son of the late Robert W. and Emily (Walser) Gaunt, he was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. He is a member of the Elks Lodge #319, East Stroudsburg and was a member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Richard was a self-employed general contractor for over 40 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle G. Bonser and her husband F. Bryan of Canadensis, his son John W. Gaunt and his wife Barbara of Greenwood, Delaware; his 4 grandchildren: Corey Bonser and his fiancée Ashley Fennimore of Philadelphia, Tessa K. Long and her husband James of Pittsburgh, Richard M. Gaunt of Ithaca, New York and Abigail Gaunt of Greenwood, DE. He is also survived by his sister Jeanne Marean of Croton-On-Hudson, NY, his brothers William Gaunt and his wife Norma of Bethany Beach, DE and Ronald Gaunt of Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews; and his dog Toshee. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Gaunt. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Monday December 19, 2016 at 1:00pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania. The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg is in charge of is arrangements.
