Richard A. Verwey, 94, of Tannersville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday March 27, 2022. He was the husband of Pauline M. (Arnold) Verwey, they were married August 27, 1947. Born June 13, 1927 in Rochester, New York, the son of the late Clarence R. and Ellen (Cooney) Verwey. He was a resident of Monroe County since 1943. Richard was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Tannersville Richard was a jack of all trades and had many different jobs in many industries, and prior to his retirement he was working as a Sales Representative for Patterson-Kelley in East Stroudsburg. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by 5 children, Michael Verwey and his wife Patty Shiffler of Lancaster, Kathleen Kise and her husband Roddy of Tannersville, Christopher Verwey and his wife Linda of Tannersville, Karen Clarke and her husband Peter of Washington State, and Steven Verwey of Tannersville. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; and his brother John Verwey and his wife Suzanne of Cerritos, California. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie and his brother Thomas. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 7, 2022 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 327 Cherry Lane Road, Tannersville with Father Richard E. Czachor as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg is in charge of the arrangements.
