Nereida Colon, 79 years old passed away peacefully while holding her daughter's hand on
the afternoon of Monday, April 21, 2025, at her home in Stroudsburg, PA She was born on
September 16, 1945, in Barrio Paris-Lajas, Puerto Rico to Rafael Collado and Elisa
Romeau. Nereida grew up being a strong provider and protector of her family In 1958 at 17
years of age, she moved to New York with her Aunt Estefana to seek work in hopes of
financially supporting the family.
After several years of living in New York, in 1961 Nereida became a member of Mission
John 3:16 Christian Church of the Assemblies of God in the Bronx, At the church, she mot
Isaias Colon who she dated and married in/1965 Nereida and Isaias began as a family and
welcomed their first-born son Isaias in 1966 The family grew to receive their second son
George in 1968, and finally their daughter Elizabeth in 1969. The family continued to grow
years later as Nereida was blessed with nine grandchildren who she adored and was proud
to be their grandmother
Nereida was a church member for over 60 years Throughout her tenure as a church
member, she became very active in accompanying her daughter Elizabeth to many youth
events. She was very supportive of all ministry activities and developed a close tie with
many of the youth that attended the events She was like a mom to many to include the
family dog named Princess and a beautiful bird who she spoke to . Her church membership
at Mission John 3:16 ended when she and her husband moved to Stroudsburg, PA in 2021.
At the time of her relocation, she was four years in suffering of Supranuclear Palsy, As her
condition worsened, Hospice Healthcare sent nurses to keep her comfortable at home. Her
illness eventually led to complications that caused her to pass
Nereida is survived by the following family her husband Isaias Colon her sons Isaias Colon and Michelle Colon and
George Colon and Omayra Moncion; her daughter Elizabeth Colon her grandchildren (from oldest to youngest)
Desire Colon, Elijah Colon, Joshua Ocasio, Isabella C. Colon, Mathew Ocasio, Jaylen
Colon, Brayden I. Colon, Isaias Colon, and Natalle Colon. She is also survived by her sister
Elizabeth Collado Rosario; sister-in-Law Sonia Collado; nieces Elaine Ortiz, Lilybell Collado and nephew Jevier Rosario.
Nereida was known for being strong, loving, caring, and selfless. She wanted to help
everyone in need as she wore her heart on her sleeves, She always referred to her favorite
chapter in the Holy Bible, Psalm 119
Nereida will be missed tremendously as she could never be replaced Even though her
body will no longer be with us, her spirit and memories will always be amongst us
we'll see you soon again Nereida, enjoy the pearly gates!
