Nancy C. Dewitt

Nancy C. DeWitt, 85, of Marshalls Creek, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, surrounded by her family at her home. She is the wife of George S. DeWitt Sr.

Born August 4, 1937, in East Stroudsburg, PA, to the late Raymond Pensyl Sr. and Alma D. (Lambert) Pensyl. Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Jane Messler and husband Blair, Jean Kindrew and husband Ralph, brother Raymond Pensyl and wife Ruth.

She grew up in East Stroudsburg where she enjoyed her summers as a member of the East Stroudsburg Playground swim team. She graduated from East Stroudsburg High School in 1955 where she was involved in school plays, musicals, and competed in intramural sports.

She was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. In her early years, she attended East Stroudsburg Methodist Church where she was baptized by Reverend Eaton.

She married George S. DeWitt Sr. on July 30, 1955, at Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church where she was a member for over 60 years. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, mentored youth group, and served on various committees. She most recently attended the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family. She also worked with her husband George as a bookkeeper for the family construction business.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by sons Sam DeWitt Jr. and Loree Guthrie of Canadensis, PA; Mark DeWitt and Rick Campbell of Lake Ariel, PA; daughters Martha Determan and husband Joe of Marshalls Creek, PA; Diane Jiorle and husband Dan of East Stroudsburg, PA.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Sam DeWitt III and wife Kerrilynn; Nicholas DeWitt and wife Jacky; Tyler Jiorle and wife Shelly; Ethan Jiorle and wife Mehgan; Luke Jiorle and fiancé Emily Gallagher; Levi Jiorle and fiancé Macy Decker; Joseph Determan III and wife Marla; Carly Hinnah and husband Konstantin. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, soon to be 8, as well as several nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Evelyn DeWitt of Stroudsburg, PA.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff involved with her care over the last year including LVHN Pocono Hospital, Dale & Frances Hughes Cancer Center, LVHN Home Care - Pocono, and LVHN Hospice.

Memorial funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church, 55 Smith Street, East Stroudsburg, with Pastor Nicole Vogel officiating. Burial to follow at Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 5205 Milford Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302.
