Mary Ann B Reed

Mary Ann B. Reed (Breithaupt), our loving Mom, grandma, nana, great grandmother, and great-great-grandma (and don't forget "Corn Fairy"), passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. Mary Ann was born on May 2, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa. In the mid-1940's, she moved to New Jersey where she and her husband Robert R. Reed Sr. (deceased) raised six children. Then they moved to the Poconos for their retirement years. Mary Ann initially trained in nursing, then went on to work for RCA as a quality control manager. In later years, she worked for the Prudential Insurance Company before retiring. Mary Ann was raised Catholic and loved to sing in church. At the young age of 17, she worked and bought a baby grand piano, which she played at home often to the delight of her family. Mary Ann loved adventures, camping and RVing, and got to travel to all 50 states! Having been raised by her mother and father, who was a gourmet chef, Mary Ann was an accomplished cook. She prepared many special meals for family and friends to share in love and community. Mary Ann leaves behind her son Robert R. Reed Jr., daughter Barbara A. Dougher, son Richard R. Reed Sr., son James P. Reed Sr., son Dennis A. Reed (deceased), and daughter JoIda Reed and her wife Kathryn Higgins; and more than 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. All friends and family are welcome.
