Marlene B. Kalankiewicz, 84, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born in Caribou, Maine to Martin & Mildred (Aaronson) Akerson. She lived in Maine until moving to New Jersey, where she raised her family. When she retired, she moved to the Poconos area, living in Bushkill. In recent years, she became a resident of Spring Village Pocono with her husband, Henry. Marlene worked for Westinghouse, for General Instrument, and for Wilkata Folding Box Company where she met her husband, Henry. She was a very happy person, soft spoken, always thankful, always grateful, always smiling, never complaining, always seeing the good in people, and always seeing the bright side of things. Everyone she met became a "good friend of mine". She had a special fondness for her good friend, Courtney, at Spring Village. Marlene enjoyed living in the Poconos when she retired, country music, crocheting, her many trips to Maine to visit family, and eating out. She will forever be remembered for her many jokes that she loved to tell. She loved to make people laugh, saying laughter is good medicine. Marlene is survived by her husband of 42 years, Henry. She is the proud mother of her daughter Sheila and son-in-law Charles; and her daughter, Sharon. Marlene would tell Charles many times that she thanked God for sending him to our family. She is also survived by her grandchildren Melanie, John and his wife Dana, Charles and Michael; her grandchildren Brianna, Connor, Anthony, Adam, Kaitlyn, Gianna, John and Alyssa; and great-granddaughter Audriana; her sisters Erma Tanzosh and brother-in-law Charles; and Doreen Hallett and brother-in-law Douglas; along with many, many very special nieces, nephews and cousins. Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Mildred Akerson, her sister and brother-in-law Letha and Luciano Cabalar; and her nephew Antonio Cabalar; and her former husband, Warren Skidgel. Visitation will be Friday, July 13th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00pm at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. 5th Street, Stroudsburg with Pastor Margie Good officiating Entombment will follow at Prospect Cemetery Her family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association 57 N Franklin Street #1, Wilkes Barre PA 18701.
