Marie C. Counterman

Marie (Davenport) Counterman, 81, of East Stroudsburg passed away on February 15, 2022. She was born on January 14, 1941 in Washington, NC to James and Grace Davenport. Marie was a proud ‘army brat’, graduating from American Manheim High School in Germany. After graduation, her family relocated to East Stroudsburg where she met the love of her life, Paul Counterman. They had 40 wonderful years together before he passed away in 1999. After raising her children, she worked at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for many years. Following retirement, she moved to Shirley Futch Plaza where she met many people and cherished those friendships. Surviving are daughters, Lydia Strunk (Daniel) and Diane Perry, son James Counterman and step-daughter Evelyn George; grandchildren Paul Perry, Daniel Strunk (Jennifer), Grace Perry, Jon Strunk (Susan), Cassandra Mesko (Erik), James Counterman, Jr, step-grandchildren Necole Arrington and Richard George; great granddaughters Elizabeth Mesko, Sophia Strunk and Eleanor Strunk; two sisters, Joyce Tari (Steve) and Lillie Gillen, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded by her step-father, Earl Wilson, sisters Amelia Crombie, Nellie Williamson and Bellinda Davenport and brothers James Davenport, Jodie Davenport and Rudy Wilson. Marie’s cheerful and uplifting spirit touched everyone she met and she was well loved. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of Marie’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Better Tomorrows 2 Aquarium Loop Dr Suite 110 Camden, NJ 08103.
