Lewis W. Scheller Jr., 95, of Stroudsburg, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family and friends on June 2, 2022. A lifelong resident of Monroe County, he graduated from Stroudsburg High School and later the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science earning a degree in Pharmacy. At the age of 16, Lew convinced his parents to sign a waiver to allow him to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served during World War II. He never lost his pride in the U.S. Military and the brave men and women who protect our freedom. Early in his professional career, Lew worked as a pharmacist at Kresge Drug Store in East Stroudsburg. He then served as the Director of Pharmacy at Pocono Hospital for 26 years until his retirement in 1992. He also worked many years at Sandt’s Pharmacy (Pen Argyl, PA) and Pleasant Valley Manor (Stroudsburg, PA). Lew always believed in helping those in need and happily volunteered to drive the Daffodil Express transporting cancer patients to treatment for many years. After his retirement from Pocono Medical Center, he served as a consultant to Pocono Ambulatory Surgical Center until 2015. He truly loved helping others, his profession, and the many wonderful coworkers he was privileged to work with. Lew felt blessed to be a member of Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church and appreciated the care and kindness of his church family. He was also a part of the Trinity Lutheran church family in Bradenton, FL, where he worshiped for many years during the winter months. In addition to his churches, he was a proud member and Past Master of Barger Lodge #325 and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #319. Everyone who knew Lew knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle, and peaceful person. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Beverly Scheller; daughters, Beth Ross (Frederick) and Sally Edinger (William); grandchildren, Audrey C. Edinger and William L. Edinger; niece, Jill Warner; and many wonderful neighbors and friends. Visitation will be held at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home in Stroudsburg on Sunday, June 12 from 2pm-4pm, immediately followed by a Masonic Service. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 13 at 11am at Christ Hamilton Church in Stroudsburg. The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please consider a donation to AWSOM Animal Shelter, St Luke’s Hospice, or Christ Hamilton Church. We take comfort in knowing that Lew is now at peace surrounded by light. Forever loved, forever missed and forever in our hearts.
