Joseph H. Brush, 87, of East Stroudsburg, passed away on Tuesday January 12, 2021 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Kathleen (Ryan) Brush, who died January 30, 2006. Born July 20, 1933 in East Stroudsburg the son of the late Anthony and Genevieve (Johns) Brush. He was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. He was a Proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a Judge of Elections in East Stroudsburg for many years Joe attended Saint Matthews Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge Eagles Club, and the Pocono Family YMCA. He loved to hunt, fish, golf. He was an sports fan and was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football, the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles; but attending his great grandchildren’s sporting events was most important to him, he was always in attendance for all of their sporting events. Prior to his retirement in 1997 he was employed in Quality Control at the Rock-Tenn Paper Mill in Delaware Water Gap for more than 30 years. Joe is survived by his daughter Esther Deiter and her longtime companion Ronald Reese of Pocono Summit; his daughter in-law Carol Brink; his 2 granddaughters, Sonia Wolbert and her husband Michael of East Stroudsburg, Erin Masker and her husband Alfred of Tobyhanna; his 3 grandsons Ryan Brink of Michigan, Kevin Brink of Oregon, and Casey Brink of Michigan. His great grandchildren Alfred Jr and Alexis Masker, Emily, Zachary and Sydney Wolbert, Quinn, Cole, Hannah, Ava, Carter and McKenna Brink and many, many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his son John Brink, and he was the last surviving sibling and was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, Fred and Russell Brush, and his sisters Genevieve Brush Slutter and Anna Catherine Brush Snyder. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 18, 2021 at 10:00am at the Church of Saint Matthew, 200 Brodhead Avenue, East Stroudsburg with Father Ryan Glenn as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. There will be a viewing on Sunday evening January 17, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pocono Family YMCA, 809 Main Street, Stroudsburg PA 18360 or Tobyhanna Little League PO Box 276 Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania 18466 .
