Joseph B. Peters Jr, 83, passed peacefully at home on December 19, 2016 surrounded by his family. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1951 and King’s College in 1955. He took additional courses at Temple University and Wharton School. He received basic bank training at Fidelity Bank, Philadelphia, PA and was a Vice President-Commercial Loan Officer at Haddonfield National Bank, Haddonfield NJ, for a number of years. He later held a similar position with a Pocono Bank for 10 years. Upon retiring from banking he co-founded International Packaging Co. and held the title of Executive Vice President for 8 years until his retirement in 2007. While living in Turnersville, NJ he coached Little League Softball, baseball and basketball. He was a Director of Archway School, Atco, NJ. In Stroudsburg, he was a member of the Elks, Eagles and the Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs where he was the treasurer and secretary for 10 years and was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Selective Services Board for twenty years, the last five as Chairman of the Board. He married the former Leona H Kalinoski on November 12, 1960 at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Plains, PA in a ceremony performed by Msgr Pilney; they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph B. and Katherine (Comiskey)Peters; and his sister Elaine Peters-Larkin in 2009. In addition to his wife Leona, he is survived by six children, Lynne Ann DeWitt-Brodzik and her husband John of Leesburg NJ, Joseph B. Peters III and his wife Linda of New Hope, Matthew Peters of Stroudsburg, Frank B. Peters and his wife Gretchen of Stroudsburg, Lorraine Peters of Middletown NJ and Robert A. Peters and his wife Laurie of Stroudsburg; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday December 23, 2016 at 10:00am at the Church of St Luke, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Father Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. There will be viewings on Thursday December 22 from 7:00pmto 9:00pm at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg and on Friday December 23 from 9:00am until the time of the mass at church.
