John V. Lezak, 82 of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home in the company of his loving family on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Born on March 16, 1941, in Manhattan, New York, John lived in Hoboken, NJ, Lake Shawnee and the Woodport section of Jefferson Township, NJ before moving to East Stroudsburg, PA in 1989. After retirement, John enjoyed wintering with his loving wife Sandra in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida. Although he spent his youth in Hoboken, he always considered himself as a “country boy”.
John retired from Hoffman-LaRoche as a lab supervisor. He was a member of many clubs including the Roche Trap Club of which he was once President. His hobbies included shooting, hiking, backpacking and camping.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed various trips to many wonderful locations. Later in life, he became an environmentalist and a bird enthusiast who enjoyed going on walks to locate birds and wildlife. Later in life, John was heard to say "take their picture, not their life”.
An avid sports fan, John loved rooting for the New York Jets and the New York Yankees.
John was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Sandra Jean Lezak (nee Kuscher) in 2012, his parents, John and Virginia Lezak (nee Duffy).
John is survived by his sisters Patricia Derenthal, Kathleen (Robert) Kauffman; a son, John (Shauna) Lezak, Jr.; stepdaughters Brenda Lawley and Ellen (Stan) Jagielo; stepsons Steven (Donna) DelVecchio and Eric (Judie) DelVecchio.
John is also survived by his loving grandchildren: James Lezak, Thomas Lezak, Sarah Lawley, Rachel Lawley, Neil Jagielo, Jillian McDonald, Bryan DelVecchio, Anthony DelVecchio, Colleen DelVecchio and Wayne DelVecchio and their families. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at For Evergreen Nature Preserve and Brodhead Creek Heritage Center in Analomink, PA on Thursday, August 31 at 11:00am. Donations in John’s name may be made at http://brodheadcreekheritage.org/donate.html
