John Michael Shanley, Age 80, of Marshals Creek passed away on May 28, 2026 with his loving sister Sally and devoted cousin Missy by his side.

John was the son of the late, Gerald E and Margaret Vanston Shanley, Jr.

Johnny was determined to celebrate his 80th birthday. It was a beautiful celebration with his family.

John never stepped foot inside an oce. He worked outside all of his life on golf courses and ski hills, from Florida to Hilton Head Island to Wisconsin and back to his home in Pennsylvania. Shawnee Mountain and Shawnee Golf Course was where he loved to be. John was an avid sports fan. Watching Golf, the Mets and the Jets were his teams even naming his favorite companion of 17 years his Golden Retriever, Jets.

John, without realizing it lived by the motto; always be humble and kind. We find peace in remembering Johnny’s kindness, his loving heart, his courage, and his compassion towards all those he met.

John was predeceased by his parents, his niece Sarah B. Wolf, his brother in laws Bob Dorough and Greg Lazzaroni.

John is survived by his siblings; Gerald E. Shanley, III and wife, Laura, Sally Shanley Dorough, Timothy Shanley and Mary Elizabeth Lazzaroni. He is also survived by his aunt, Clare Vanston Durkin.

Even though John was never married he loved his nieces and nephews as though they were his own. Chris and Monique, Peter and Jessica, Casey and Meghan, Melanie and Daniel, Joseph and Bridget, Paul and Meggan, Rebecca and Savannah(his sidekick).

John is further survived by many cousins so many to list but never forgotten. Especially his devoted Nurse, Melissa Shanley Yetter.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

We ask that you remember John by enjoying the outdoors, having a bowl of popcorn or trying his favorite candy, Werther’s.
