John E. McMahon, 67, of Stroudsburg, passed away on Sunday March 20, 2016 at the Pocono Medical Center. Born March 26, 1948 in East Stroudsburg, the son of the late Edward J. and Romaine A. (Peters) McMahon. He was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. John was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church for his whole life, where he sang on the choir for many years. John attended and graduated from the Elwyn School in Media, Pennsylvania He worked for his parents at the former Jack’s Market in East Stroudsburg for many years;, he then worked at the Colonial Lanes and hotels and restaurants throughout the Poconos. John was a lifelong sports enthusiast, and avid bowler, and a fan of Penn State athletics, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles. John is survived by his brother Michael E. McMahon of Springfield NH; his 2 nephews Michael McMahon Jr of Honolulu, HI, and Sean McMahon of Des Moines IA, and his niece Erin McMahon-Farnum of Hanover NH; and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend Anne Kocan, of Stroudsburg. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at 11:00am at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg with Peggy Strack officiating. Burial will follow in the Lehighton Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Tuesday March 29 from 10:00am until the time of the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in support of the choir at the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 83 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg PA 18301, or the VNA Hospice House, 502 VNA Road, East Stroudsburg PA 18301.
