Jeanette Rachel Hilliard

Jeanette Rachel (Rothrock) Hilliard, 93, set out on her next adventure, leaving to join her family members in heaven, on June 24, 2022. She was born August 29, 1928 to Jennie Kenney (Shumaker) and Frank Rothrock, in Mount Bethel. She had a tough, stubborn disposition but a kind, generous nature. In her younger years she was a daredevil. She was an outdoor person, riding her horse up to the mountaintop to her uncle's fire tower, swimming in the Delaware, and hunting with her brothers and nephews. Jeanette enjoyed hard work. She could fix anything and could outwork most men. After graduating from Portland High School in 1946, she soon went to work in the garment industry. She was employed by several local mills and factories, the last being Blue Ridge Textile, where she was an inspector. She was an expert seamstress and a union member. Many would spot Jeanette in her garden along Route 611 and would ask "Who is that little crooked lady working out in the hot sun?" In her later years, she could be seen plowing with her Farmall tractor, yanking out brush, and cutting things up with her chainsaw. She was a regular at Home Depot and the John Deere dealership. When she wasn't working, she liked to have fun. She enjoyed playing games and lit up at the mention of a party. Along with her extended family, she shared many pleasant times with her adopted neighbor family, the Serranos. Her other loves were ice cream, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Kitty Kitty. She was predeceased by her husband Chauncey Hilliard; her sisters Ruth, Grace, Helen, and Geneva; her brothers William and Ralph; her son Jeffrey R. Rothrock; nephews Vernon, Kenneth, and Frederick Rothrock; a grandnephew Scott Rothrock; and an infant grandniece. She is survived by her niece Wanda Rothrock; her nephews Larry (Linda), Dale, and Donald Rothrock; her nephew Kenneth Rothrock's widow Theresa; and several grand nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made in her name to Compassionate Care Hospice, or another charity of your choice.
