Jan “John” Michal Osipowicz, age 65, of Cresco, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019. He is survived by his loving and dedicated partner, Barbara (Basia) Młochowska; his sons, Dominick (Sarah) and Karol (Jessica); step-daughter, Kasia (Wojtek) Grzelecka; grandchildren, Noah, Ethan, and Isaac Osipowicz and Adam and Krystian Grzelecki; sisters, Anna Kozera and Elżbieta Remiszewska; nephew, Tomek Remiszewski; and niece, Katarzyna Kozera-Muzyczek. Born in Lowicz, Poland, he spent most of his youth in the capital city of Warsaw. After graduating from the Chopin Conservatory, he commenced on a successful musical career traveling Europe and Asia, as a concert flutist. Jan embarked on a new adventure in 1985, moving to the United States with his two sons. They spent several years in Queens, New York City, before settling in the Pocono Mountains area of Canadensis. A man of many talents, Jan was not only a gifted musician but artist and hobby mechanic. He could often be found playing his piano, painting a landscape, tinkering in his garage, tending his vegetable garden, or simply watching the birds that visited the home he shared with Basia. He held many roles over his lifetime beyond concert flutist, including pizza shop owner, educator, and most recently real estate agent. His intelligence, creativity, and tenacity allowed him to excel in whatever task he chose. He basked in his role as a father, in which he taught the importance of intellectual curiosity and self-sufficiency, and in recent years his role as a grandfather, in which he shared his love of the arts and nature. He will be missed by all. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, at St. Luke’s Church in Stroudsburg. He will be interred in the family crypt in his beloved Poland.
