James A. DeBoer, 81, of Hamilton Township, passed away on Sunday at the Inpatient Hospice Unit in the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono. He was the husband of Gloria E. (Strunk) DeBoer, they were married June 6, 1974. Born July 15, 1936 in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of the late Aaron and Hazel (Jackson) DeBoer. He was a resident of Monroe County since 1973, and prior to that of Wayne, New Jersey. He was of the Methodist Faith. Prior to his retirement, he was self employed in the Textile Industry; he designed, fabricated, and installed textile units all over the United States. He actually made curtains for the Whitehouse during President Carter’s Presidency, he designed and artificial artery; and worked on the nose cone of the Patriot Missile in the 1970‘s. James loved taking his grandchildren camping and with his son Steve, and panning for gold. He enjoyed crabbing in Maryland with his son Craig. James loved helping others and would be there for anyone who needed anything, He was known as “St. James” to his friends. James volunteered for RSVP. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Jordan A. DeBoer of Henryville, Craig J. DeBoer and his wife Kim of East Stroudsburg, Alyss T. Westberry of East Stroudsburg, Karen E. Rebagliati of Stroudsburg, Dianne M. Svopa and her husband Robert of East Stroudsburg, and Steven C. Schaller and his wife Monica of Stroudsburg. 12 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Hazel DeBoer and her companion Tom Arnowitz of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his brother Ed. Funeral services will be on Saturday June 30, 2018 at 11:00am at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg with Pastor Dean Frey officiating. Cremation will follow. There will be a viewing on Friday June 29, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
