Jacqueline Sue (Kitchen) Chaplin, 77, of East Stroudsburg, passed away on June 8, 2024 at their home. She was the loving wife of Michael B. Chaplin. They would have celebrated fifty-six years of marriage on July 12th.

Born June 26, 1946 in East Stroudsburg, the daughter of the late Thomas E. and E. Lorraine (Miller) Kitchen, Jackie was a resident of Monroe County for most of her lifetime. She was also a longtime resident of Brevard County, Florida.

She was a member of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg, having been confirmed and married in the church.

Jackie was a 1964 graduate of Stroudsburg High School and 1968 graduate of East Stroudsburg State College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach first grade at W.H. Ramsey Elementary School.

She and Mike met at the ballfield in Stroudsburg in seventh grade when he squirted her with a water gun. They later became high school sweethearts and have been inseparable since then. She was a State troopers wife and was the unsung hero during Mike’s career.

Jackie and Mike realized their dream of living in Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1993, which served as their home base for the next twenty-six years. They spent their days walking and exercising and traveling to Europe several times and even visiting forty-six states. Jackie especially loved seeing the tulips in Holland and their trip to see the Bridges of Madison County was among her favorites. As long as they were together, though, it didn’t matter where they roamed. In 2019, they decided to return to East Stroudsburg and build a log home on what was once Jackie’s family land.

Jackie taught first grade for two and a half years before becoming a stay at home mom. She knew the importance of being home to hear the day’s news from their daughter and loved greeting her at the bus stop or on the front stoop every afternoon. She was an amazing science fair project creator, listener of hours of flute practice and giver of advice. When she became a Grammie, she shared her love with Ryan Patrick - her dear, sweet boy.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Lori (Brian Custard), her grandson, Ryan Masterson and her son-in-law, Douglas Masterson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Jay and Ruth (Hillegas) Miller, paternal grandparents Clarence and Nettie (Fetherman) Kitchen, her father-in-law, Evan R. Chaplin and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg with Pastor Elizabeth Koerner officiating.

Interment will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg
