Iris Powell lost her battle to cancer on April 7, 2025. She passed away peacefully at
Monroe County Hospice House surrounded by her loved ones.
Iris was born on June 22, 1963, in Brooklyn, NY to proud parents Dennis and Hattie
White. Iris was the youngest of seven children. She attended and graduated from
Sarah J. Hale High School. She has an associate degree from John J. College. She
met and married the love of her life and moved to Bushkill, PA. Iris was a fighter. She
fought until she couldn’t fight any more. She fought for her Medicaid rights from her
hospital bed. She worked in the Healthcare field for over two decades because she
loved helping others. She poured into others before pouring into herself. She was
always willing to help others. She touched the lives of patients, co-workers, friends and
family with her love, light, and laughter.
She was a devoted wife to her husband Eugene Powell. She was blessed to have three
children, Kuaheim Powell, Quatima Powell, and Kuasheim Powell. She was a doting
grandmother to six grandchildren, Nasharn, Mehki, Jabari, Quatima, Aviyana, and
Jahmyiah.
She leaves to mourn, her husband Eugene Powell, her children, her grandchildren, her
mother Hattie White, Her sisters Vernice Biggs, Gloria Carter, Marilyn White, Denise
White and brother Andre White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Iris is predeceased by her father Dennis White, brother Jonathan Carter, grandmother
Rosalee Carter, grandfather J.D. Carter, father-in-law Herbert Powell, mother-in-law
Esther Powell, Her aunts Rhea, Earline, Izola, & Ida Mae, her uncle James, nieces
Karen Biggs, & Soraya Biggs, Great nephews Colleek, and Wendell.
Her legacy of care, courage, and kindness will never be forgotten. PEACE!
