Hieronim W. Duszka, 73, of East Stroudsburg passed away on Tuesday December 31, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus. He was the loving husband of Anna (Sadowska) Duszka, they have been married 35 years since February 9, 1990. Born April 30, 1951, in Poland, the son of Hieronim and Olga (Buczynska) Duszka. He spent weekends and holidays in East Stroudsburg since building a home in 1997, and moved there full time after his retirement in 2018. Prior to that, Hieronim and his family lived in New York City, ever since he emigrated from his native Poland in 1979. Hieronim was educated as a Mechanical Engineer at the Poznan University of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1975. Foregoing a comfortable career as an engineer in his native country, he emigrated to Vienna, Austria for one year until being granted political asylum in the United States, where he sought to build a better life for his family and his children, free from the Communist oppression of his native home. He worked as a building manager in New York City, known to his family as Hiruś and to his American friends and colleagues as Jerome. He was a man of many talents, working on all things technical, from fixing cars to building assorted machines in his spare time, from CNC machines to a photo development machine, and to a bird feeder that the squirrels couldn't reach. He loved to play chess, bridge, and an occasional tune on the piano. He told a story like no one else, filling a room with his voice, waving his hands at full breadth, and captivating his entire audience, whether there were 2 or 200 of them. Everything he did, he did with all his heart, never allowing himself half measures. More than anything Hieronim loved his three children and taught them all the things he knew. He taught his daughter how to use a Commodore 64 when she was 8 years old, and loved to reminisce about playing hooky from school with her so they could spend time at the Barnes and Noble, learning actual things instead. He taught his two sons how to build anything and everything from house sheds and decks to computers and robots. Never was there a prouder father when both his boys followed in his footsteps as engineers. He loved to spend time with his wife Anna, gardening, walking their dogs, and enjoying the woods in their beloved home in East Stroudsburg as well as during their many trips abroad. He was a loving husband and father, a devoted friend, a devout Catholic, and a proud patriot of both his native and adopted country. He will be sorely missed.
