Gladys Barbara McKay, 89, passed away peacefully after a short illness on June 8, 2017, at VNA Hospice House, East Stroudsburg, PA. Gladys was born on July 10, 1927, to the late Ernest Harding and Mabel Seeburger Harding in Jersey City, NJ. After marrying Raymond McKay and raising her 5 children, Gladys became the “voice” of Spex Industries in NJ as the receptionist/secretary, a position she truly loved, where she worked for 20 years. After retiring, Gladys and Raymond moved from NJ to Surfside Beach, SC, where they enjoyed many wonderful years and continued to sing together in the church choir. They then moved to Spring Hill, Florida, where Raymond passed away on June 11, 1998. To be closer to her family, Gladys moved to PA, where she has lived ever since. Gladys’ passion in life was music and most of all singing. She was active in the church choir at East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church for many, many years, and she sang with the Golden Chords, a senior group that performs for various assisted living centers and nursing homes in the area. After living on her own for many years, she moved briefly to Whitestone Senior Living and then to Grace Park, which was always her favorite place to sing with the Golden Chords. After 4 wonderful years there, she moved to The Gardens at Stroud in East Stroudsburg, PA, for three months before becoming ill. Gladys is survived by her five loving children: Linda McKay McDermott and her partner, Robert Benbrook; Scott McKay; Kathi McKay Davies and her spouse, William; Kim McKay and her spouse, Fred Misurella; and Sharon McKay Marcewicz and her spouse, Edmund. Gladys also leaves 8 wonderful grandchildren: Sean McDermott, Erin McDermott Fisher, Billy Davies, Kristina Davies, Alex Misurella, Filipka Misurella, Evan Marcewicz, and her late grandson Tyler Marcewicz. In her later years, Gladys was blessed with 5 great-grandchildren: Jason, Justin, and Emilia Fisher; Ginger Schmehl-McDermott; and Mason Davies. Gladys’ ashes will be interned with Raymond’s at the Stroudsburg Cemetery as part of a celebration of her life in July, where family members will share our memories of this wonderful woman who always had a smile for the world and a good word for everyone she knew. To her family, she was the epitome of a loving mother, a cherished sister, and the best friend a person could ever have. Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home 401 North 5th Street Stroudsburg will be handling the arrangements. www.bensing-thomasfuneralhome.com
