Gilbert Nelson “Sonny” Silfee Sr., 83, of Stroudsburg, passed away on Thursday May 13, 2021 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono. He was the husband of Dorothy Mae (LaBar) Silfee, they were married for 58 years. Born June 19, 1937 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, one of 14 children to Gilbert Charles and Anna (Petrick) Silfee. He was a Proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was raised in Wayne County and resided in Monroe County after serving in the Air Force. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Stroudsburg. Sonny was an avid Hunter and Fisherman. He worked as a Supervising Foreman for Shiffer Bituminous for 47 years, where he was very respected by the men he worked with; during his career, he built most of the current roads in the Poconos. Most of all Sonny enjoyed being a husband, father, but especially a grandfather and great grandfather. He was proud of coming from a big family, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Gail (Silfee) Widdoss of Albrightsville; his son Gilbert N. “Bud” Silfee Jr and his wife Tracy of Kresgeville His grandchildren Krystal Widdoss of Port Ritchie FL, Todd Widdoss Jr and his wife Misty of Tannersville, Chantal Silfee of Wilkes Barre and Joshua Silfee and his wife Samantha of Kresgeville. His great grandchildren Kristopher Hull, Alexander Hull, Sky Harmon, Sadie Curtis, Victoria Brunstetter, Sofia Widdoss, Coroline Widdoss, Caleb Ruck and Jace Silfee. His siblings Esther Norris of East Stroudsburg, Jeannie Balmer, of Binghamton NY, Joyce Michaels of Levittown, Sally Gontz of Stroudsburg, Wesley Silfee of Bushkill, Robert Silfee of Neola, Barbara Conklin of Kunkletown, Roy Silfee of Hartford, and Paul Silfee of Florida. And many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 3 sisters Charlotte Batzel, Eleanor Huge, Rosemarie Hineline and his brother Stephen Silfee. There will be a viewing on Sunday May16, 2021 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on Monday May 17, 2021 from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am with Pastor Zimran Y. Khan officiating at the Bensing Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
