Gary James Roberts

Gary James Roberts, 80, of Stroudsburg, PA. passed away on September 7, 2024. He was the son of the late R. John and Ruth Anna (Barrett) Roberts.

Gary was born on November 28, 1943, in Bradford, PA. He graduated from Bradford Area High School and then attended Lock Haven University, where he earned a bachelor's in mathematics. After college he then joined the US Air Force where he served as a Navigator Bombardier in the Vietnam War. In 1976 Gary enrolled at Chapman University and earned his master's in criminal justice. Gary became a police officer and served with the Pacifica and San Diego Police Departments. Gary decided to move back East in 1981 to serve as the Stroudsburg Chief of Police. In 1987 Gary and Michelle realized their dream of opening their own business and formed Gateway Abstract, Inc.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Michelle L. (Padgett) Roberts with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on August, 1 daughter: Cherise Ann (Roberts) Decker and her husband Scott of Stroudsburg, PA., and a grandson, Logan James Decker, also of Stroudsburg, PA.

Gary is also survived by his sister Bonnie F. (Roberts) Gordon of Altoona, PA.

Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy John Roberts.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 18, 2024, from 2:00pm -4:00pm at the Bensing Thomas Funeral Home in Stroudsburg with a service to begin at 4:00pm led by Pastor Monica Guepet.
