Frederick Donald Moore, Jr.

April 5, 1957 – March 16, 2026

Frederick Donald Moore, Jr., 68, passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, March 16, 2026, at a Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, PA, surrounded by the love of his family and lifelong friend, Dale Balasco. His passing followed a serious stroke on March 7th.

Born on April 5, 1957, Fred lived a life defined by hard work, service, and an unyielding passion for the things he loved. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller from 1980 to 1981. Following his military service, Fred became a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 229, retiring in 2020 after a long and dedicated career with Roadway Express (YRC).

A lifelong and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Fred shared his love for the game with his son, Nicholas. Together, they owned season tickets at AT&T Stadium, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. While his oldest son, Shaun, and his close friend, Dale, were his complete opposites as loyal Philadelphia Eagles fans, they still found common ground in their love for the game. They bonded over many football games together, most notably sharing the excitement of Super Bowl XXVII years ago—a memory the family will always hold dear.

Beyond the football field, Fred found great joy on the bowling lanes. He truly enjoyed bowling with his sons and took great pride in participating in several different leagues alongside them over the years.

Fred’s love for fast and flashy cars wasn't just for the movies—though those who knew him well knew his movie collection was quite extensive. He harbored a lifelong dream of owning a high-performance vehicle, and in retirement, he made that dream a reality with his beautiful blue Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio. During his years in Texas, everyone knew they could find Fred out in the sunshine, meticulously washing and waxing his car, which brought him immense pride and joy.

A devoted father at heart, Fred’s family was always his priority, even when life and distance kept them miles apart. He spent countless Sundays on the local basketball courtsplaying alongside his children. In the younger years, he would often step into the role of coach for their teams and provided the inspiration for them to eventually coach teams of their own. Back at home, the competition continued through video games, where Madden was always the game of choice, creating a bridge between his love for football and his love for his kids.

Fred took great pride in celebrating his children's milestones from near or far, especially the years he spent watching his daughter, Kristina, command the court as point guard during her high school basketball career. Driven by a desire to be present for the big moments, Fred intentionally moved to Tennessee during Kristina’s first years at the University of Tennessee. After many happy retirement years in Texas, he spent his final year in the Poconos to be near his sons, which provided the family a precious opportunity to spend much-needed time together.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Kay Moore; his father, Frederick Donald Moore, Sr.; his stepmother, Ruth Moore; and two beloved granddaughters, Rebecca Bryson Moore and Julia Rose Moore.

He leaves behind a large and loving legacy, including his children: Shaun Moore (wife Dana), Nicholas Moore (wife Andrea), and Kristina Zangwill (husband Mykal). He was an incredibly proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: brothers Montgomery and Charles (wife Trish) Moore; and sisters Keri-Jean Hassell, Lisa Moore, Colleen Whitley, LaJuana Kessler, and Kathy Thacker (and husband). He will be deeply missed by his many beloved nieces and nephews, especially Jamey and Shawn Thacker, who proudly shared his lifelong passion for the Dallas Cowboys.

Special recognition is held for Fred’s lifetime family friend and "brother," Dale Balasco. Over this past year, Dale dedicated much of his free time to visiting Fred in the Poconos. During Fred's final week in hospice, Dale was a constant presence at his bedside—talking to him, reading to him, and advocating for him with unwavering dedication. In a final moment of peace and brotherhood, Fred took his last breath while listening to the replay of the Cowboys vs. Giants game, with Uncle Dale faithfully by his side. Fred’s bond with Dale extended to the entire Balasco family; he was a beloved fixture in the lives of Dale’s wife, Kathy, and their children, Jerry, Kyle, and Trey, who all knew him simply as “Uncle Fred”.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life for Fred will be held in May. In honor of Fred’s spirit and his "Sunday best," the family invites attendees to wear their Dallas Cowboys gear, their favorite NFL team’s colors, or even their Eagles green in a final nod to their friendly rivalry. Specific date and location details will be shared by the family soon.

As Fred would say one last time: "How ‘bout them Cowboys!"
