Frederick Mitchell Balfe, affectionately known as Rick, passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 80. He passed peacefully in his residence in East Stroudsburg, PA, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born January 14, 1946, Rick truly lived an amazing life. He was a graduate of Salisbury Prep School and was a proud alum of Brown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also earned a Master of Social Work through Adelphi University. He became an investor with a passion for helping those in need.

Aside from all the lives he changed, Rick will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor and his lifetime of stories and adventures. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and photography. He had a soft spot for animals and had many beloved cats over the years. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rosa M. and Frederick C. Balfe. He is survived by his son, Edwin; his grandchildren, Edwin Jr. and Jessie; and his niece and nephew Hilary and Michael Babcock.

A small, private memorial will be held in the Lehigh Valley. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Rick's honor to Covenant House, your local animal shelter, or any Dementia/Alzheimer's Foundation.

Rick was an extraordinary person who impacted so many lives both personally and through his charitable donations over the years. His legacy will continue to live on through the donations of his ongoing charitable trust, supporting society’s most vulnerable, and through those who were lucky enough to know him.
