Ellen P. Wood

Ellen Payne Wood, 94, of Stroudsburg, died on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Pocono Health System’s VNA Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Howard F. Wood, Jr. Ellen was born August 20, 1922 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter Payne and Clara (Hirleman) Payne. She was a resident of Monroe County since 1976, and prior to that of New York City. She graduated from Case Western/Cleveland Art Institute, and worked as an artist and art teacher. Mrs. Wood is survived by her three daughters, Sarah Wood, Susan Wood and Catherine Wood (Hecht); her grandchildren, Alex Kerr, and Amelia and Elliot Hecht; and her great-granddaughter Nastassia Kerr. She is also survived by her sister, Constance Updike, and her niece and nephew, Jennifer and John Updike. A gathering in Ellen’s memory will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family. The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street Stroudsburg is in charge of the arrangements.
