Ellen M. Green

Ellen M. Green, 89, of Hamilton Township went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday September 22, 2019 at her home. She was married for 64 years to her childhood sweetheart, Donald R. Green, who died November 13, 2014. She was born in Barry Township, Schuylkill County the daughter of the late Elvin L. and Mary S. (Green) Yoder. Ellen attended the Berean Bible Fellowship Church. She was a member of the Cressona Chapter #367 Order of the Eastern Star. Prior to her retirement, she was the School Secretary at the Hamilton Elementary School for 27 years. Ellen loved spending her time camping, gardening, doing puzzles and watching sports and racing. Her other passion was crocheting. She made hundreds of Christmas ornaments for friends and family and donated blankets for premature babies by the bag full. Although she was a good cook, she much preferred to eat out at the Snydersville Diner. Mornings were not her favorite time and those that loved her waited till she had her coffee and had read the paper. Ellen is survived by her son Gerald R. Green and his wife Viriginia of Temecula CA; her daughter Jeanette “Jan” L. Shaver and her husband John of East Meredith NY; her grandchildren Joshua, Gabriel, Isaiah, Elisha, Jared, Linsey and Brenden, and 9 great grandchildren She is also survived by her dear sister in law Jeanette Yoder and her son in law Stanley Iwanowski; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many close friends and devoted neighbors. Love and care was provided by her caregiver, Catherine, which allowed her to live out her final years in the home that she loved since 1968. She was predeceased by her daughter Lori E. Iwanowski; her grandson Derek Shaver, and her brother James Yoder Viewings will be held Friday September 27, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday September 28, 2019 from 9:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Saint John’s Church (Kimmel’s) Cemetery, Ashland, Pennsylvania.
