Clarence Oscar “Champ” Odom Jr., 65, of East Stroudsburg, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Pocono Health Systems Hospice House. Born February 12, 1950 in Panama, Central America, the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Griffith) Odom. He was a resident of Monroe County since 1974, and prior to that of Germany and Zephyrhills, Florida. Champ was a follower of Christ, and was a faithful and very active member of the Pocono Christian Center, where he accepted Christ more than 20 years ago; at the church he sang in the choir, led the men’s ministries, led communion and was the man responsible for preparing and maintaining the men’s Saturday morning prayer breakfast. Clarence served in the U.S. Armed Forces. He worked as a welder for Bustin Industrial Products in East Stroudsburg, prior to that he worked at Roadway Trucking in Tannersville. He is survived by his daughter Carla D. Carter and her husband Stockton of Jacksonville, FL; his 3 grandchildren Caila, Christen, and Chloe Carter; his step-father James Parker of Allentown. His longtime companion of Sheila Durick. Champ is also survived by his siblings, Ruben Odom and his wife Audrey of Baltimore MD, Dan Odom of Allentown, Charles Odom of Allentown, William Odom of San Francisco, Richard Odom of Hazelton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Odom. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 11:00am at the Pocono Christian Center, 211 Keller Drive, Stroudsburg with Pastor John Magee officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg and on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 10:00am until the time of the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the “Men’s Prayer Breakfast” of the Pocono Christian Center, 157 Maple Avenue, Stroudsburg PA 18360.
