Caroline Spencer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 9, 1927. One of six children to the late John H. and Essie M. Griffin. She departed this life on May 1, 2021. The family moved to Newark, N.J. shortly after her birth where she attended the public schools. After accepting Christ as her Savior she joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church where she sand in the choir and participated in various activities. She was employed as a clerk with Verizon Corporation for 28 years, retiring in 1991. In 1950, she joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Reverend Norman R. Spencer. To this union a son, John Theodore was born. In 1971,she joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev. Roger P. Derricotte. She was active as a Deaconess, and served as Assistant Secretary for many years. She also served as Corresponding Secretary of Floral Ministry. After the death of Reverend Spencer in 1993, she moved to east Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. While living there she became a volunteer with PATH, an ecumenical Council of Monroe County formed to assist families in need of temporary housing. Caroline loved her Lord, her family and her Church. She will be sorely missed, but we will meet again in that “Great Getting Up Morning.” She leaves to mourn their loss, a devoted son - John, one nephew, David Alston and a great nephew, Miles H. Ferguson, three nieces Evelyn Griffin, Aleta Smith and a great niece Keisha Griffin, one sister-in-law Virginia Cobb, and many more relatives and friends. There will be a viewing on Wednesday May 12, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania The family of the late Caroline Spencer acknowledges, with sincere appreciation, your understanding, your prayers, and all acts of kindness shown at this time of bereavement.
