Carol Stettler Newhart passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 15, 2017 at the age of 79. Carol is survived by her sisters, Pamela Krim of Wilmington, Delaware, and Marietta Scoggins of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; her sons, Dale Newhart (Merri Seymour) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Thomas Newhart (Christine) of Roswell, Georgia; her grandchildren, Alexa, Rachael, Elizabeth and Christian; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Dale Newhart. Carol was born to parents Frank and Lorraine Stettler in Palmerton, Pennsylvania on October 11, 1937. She was raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania and earned her teaching degree from East Stroudsburg State University. After marrying Dale, they moved to the Hudson Valley of New York for thirty-two years, where she taught mathematics in various K-12 schools. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Bonita Springs, Florida, where they spent much of the time traveling the country and volunteering with the National Park Service. In 2005, they settled in Perry, Georgia to be closer to family. Most recently, Carol moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to enjoy the cooler weather and some snowfall. She enjoyed golf, sailing, camping, card games, birds, dogs and socializing with her neighbors. Memorial funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00am at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg with Pastor Margie Good officiating. Interment services will be held at the family gravesite in the Delaware Water Gap Cemetery in Pennsylvania, details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association or the Humane Society of the United States.
