Carl Courtright Andrew, a skilled carpenter and beloved member of his community, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on September 10, 1940, in Stroudsburg, the son of the late Harry and Mabel (Courtright) Andrew, Carl dedicated his life to his trade as a Union Carpenter until his retirement, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and a strong work ethic that earned him the respect of many.
A man of many interests, Carl had a passion for gardening, perhaps most famously known for raising at least an acre of garlic, which he proudly exported to Germany. His love for gardening reflected his nurturing personality, combined with his kind and considerate nature. Those who knew Carl appreciated his wealth of historical knowledge about the area, which made every conversation with him engaging and enlightening.
In addition to his career and hobbies, Carl was deeply committed to serving his community. He was elected Monroe County Auditor in 1967; He was a Forest Fire Warden for 20 years; He was a lifetime member of the Stroud Township Volunteer Fire Department and held the honor of being a Past President of the Pocono Garlic Festival. His dedication to community service extended to various organizations as well; he was a member of the J Simpson African Masonic Lodge #628, the former Stroud Township Lions Club, The East Stroudsburg Elks Lodge #319, and a former member of the Moose Lodge #1336.
Carl also served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a commitment that further showcased his dedication and patriotism.
He was a proud member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Stroudsburg, where his contributions and presence will surely be missed.
Carl is survived by his loving family, including his nephews Michael Andrew and Kenneth Andrew, and his nieces Kate Andrew, Lori Hartman and Diana Torrey. He was preceded in death by his brothers Harry Andrew and Albert Andrew, who have surely welcomed him in spirit.
There will be a viewing on Thursday January 22, 2026, from 5:00pm until the time of his funeral service at 7:00pm with Reverend Gary Barraco officiating, at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg.
Burial with Military Honors will be held at the convenience of the family in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania.
His legacy of kindness, community service, and dedication to his craft will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
