On June 11, 2026, we lost a truly creative and loving soul, Cary H. Newell—a man whose life was deeply rooted in music, connection, and the simple joys shared with those he loved.

Cary was a proud graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, Class of 1978, and continued his education at Penn State, Berkshire Campus. From an early age, it was clear that music would be the heartbeat of his life. Cary had an incredible passion for all things music—he sang, wrote songs, played guitar in groups, and found great joy in teaching others to play.

His career reflected this passion, as he worked as a manager of music stores and later served at Paynter Precision Music in Stroudsburg as Director of Instruction. In that role, he guided music school teachers and helped shape programs that inspired countless students. For Cary, music was never just a profession—it was a calling. He spent years creating lyrics, melodies, songs, and albums, and cherished the time spent writing and recording with friends.

Outside of music, Cary found peace and happiness in fishing. He enjoyed both freshwater and saltwater fishing, but especially treasured his annual trips to Chincoteague, where he made lasting memories with family and friends.

Cary also gave back to his community, serving in the late 1990s as a board member for the rehabilitation center, Blue Mountain House of Hope—another reflection of his caring and generous spirit.

Cary was preceded in death by his father, Harold Newell, and his sister, Linda. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Diane (Winslow) Newell; his sister, Kim Newell and her husband Dennis Kahler; his brother, David Newell and his wife Mandy; his sons, Shaun Newell and Maxwell Hope; and his partner, Holly Tarr, whom he described as his best friend and soulmate.

Cary will be remembered for his creativity, his warmth, and the music he brought into the world—and into the hearts of those who knew him. His songs may fade, but the memories he created will echo on forever.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in the near future; details will be shared with family and friends.
