Bill H. Hamilton, 89, of East Stroudsburg, PA, passed away on March 25, 2017. Bill is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of 65 years; his children Patricia and husband Charles (Ilsley), of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Richard and his wife Cindy, of Richmond, Virginia, Robert and Jim (Rego), of Webster, New York, and Karen and husband Norman (Frankel), of Montgomery, New York. He has five grandchildren: Laura, Sarah, Kathleen, Cassie, and Alex. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Wilda Blanche (Simonson) Hamilton and his daughter, Janet, of Lake Worth, Florida. Bill was born on November 6, 1927 in Arkansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1945 and from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. In July of 1951 he married Evelyn Hoffman, also a graduate of Kansas University. Bill began working for Bell Telephone Laboratories in New York City in 1950 and was called into active duty in 1955 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force fulfilling an ROTC commitment and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following his military discharge Bill returned to Bell Labs at Whippany, New Jersey, until his retirement in 1989. During his 40 year career, he obtained 26 US patents while developing highly reliable high voltage power equipment to power undersea amplifiers in transoceanic telephone cables. He enjoyed working on projects with engineers in England, France, Spain, and Japan. Bill and Evelyn raised their three daughters and two sons in Summit, New Jersey, where they lived for 34 years, and frequented their vacation home in Stillwater Estates, Pocono Summit. Following Bill’s retirement the next twenty years were spent at their retirement home adjacent to their vacation house. An active community member, Bill served as PTA President in the Summit school system, and President of the Board of Directors at Stillwater Estates. Bill was passionate about helping others and both he and his wife assisted with C.A.U.S.E. food pantry in Jersey City, and later Meals-on- Wheels. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m., with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 29th at the Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church, 12 Church Street.
