Arthur (Bud) Garris Jr. Age 89, passed away on August 29, 2023, at Wilkes Barre Veterans Medical Center, Wilkes Barre. He was the husband of the late Shirley Brown, who passed November 5, 2021.

He was born on June 9, 1934, in Coney Island, NY, the son of the late Arthur Garris Sr. and Margaret (Collins) Garris.

He was a lifetime resident of the area, mostly Bushkill Pa. He spent 3 years in the U.S. Marine and was honorably discharged. He was a sergeant who served during the Korean War. He was the first president of the Pike Federation Sportsmen’s clubs and the Pike County Delegate to the Sportsmen’s Club having served as Secretary, Alt Delegate, and Chairman of the year. He was honored as sportsman of the year. In addition, he was appointed to the Sports Afield Advisory Committee.

Arthur and his beloved wife Shirley ran the Garris Log Cabin Bar and Restaurant for 44 years. He served on the Pike County Republican party for many years as the Vice President and as the Chairman. He was appointed to the Bushkill Watershed clean streams for Monroe, Pike, and Wayne counties. He sold his property to the Bushkill Post Office.

Arthur was a very big campaigner for Pike County Judges, among the many Judges he campaigned for were Vican, Thompson, Kameen, Chelak and other Federal, State, County, and local officials.

He served on the Lehman Township Zoning hearing board for 4 years, the Lehman Township Economic Development committee and vacancy board, and was an associate director to the Pike County Soil and Water conservation district. Arthur also was a member and served as the Vice Commander for post 514 of the American Legion in Bushkill. He was an associate member of the Bushkill Fire Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, a son James, and a Granddaughter Theresa Garris

He is survived by A daughter Debra Bastian and her husband Dale. 2 sons, Richard Garris and wife Amanda, and Robert Garris and wife Barbara. A daughter in law Lori, Grandchildren: George Bastian and RJ Robert Garris, Kelsey Garris, and Ramsey Garris as well as 4 great grandchildren.

A sister Marie Summa and husband Frank, and many nieces & nephews

He will be missed by many.

A viewing will be held from on Friday September 1, 2023, from 10:00am until 11:30 am followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00noon at the Church of Saint John, 5171 Milford Road East Stroudsburg (Marshalls Creek) with Father Gregory A. Reichlin as celebrant and followed by Marine Military honors. Cremation will follow.

Burial of his cremated remains will be held Tuesday September 5, 2023 at 10:00am at Sand Hill Cemetery, Shoemakers.
