Anna Mae West, more commonly known as Ma to her family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 10. She was 91.
Born on July 22, 1933 in Dunmore, Anna Mae lived a very full and vibrant life. She was the loving wife of Edwin West, with whom she celebrated her 71st wedding anniversary this year. Ed and Anna Mae met at a roller skating rink the week after his release from the military. It was a case of love at first sight, as they were married months later in Scranton on February 12, 1953 and have been truly inseparable ever since.
Anna Mae started her career later in life. She began working at General Electric Carbon Products where she worked making carbon fiber brushes. It was here that she made lifelong friends with whom she created lasting memories.
Anna Mae was completely devoted to her family, and she took great pride in caring for them. She was an exceptional cook and baker, known for her delicious meals and wonderful pies. There are many memories that center around family dinners at her house.
In her free time, Anna Mae enjoyed reading, traveling with Ed and her family, and shopping with her late daughter, Sue. Anna Mae was exceptionally good at spoiling her grandchildren, but she truly mastered this skill when her great grandchildren were born.
Anna Mae was a woman of great faith, who attended East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church with her family for many years. She was a kind and generous soul who always put others before herself. Her family and friends will remember her for her warm smile, her gentle nature, and her unwavering love.
Anna Mae is survived by her husband, Edwin; son, Jason West, and his wife Carol; son in law, William Ellis; her grandsons Matthew Ellis (Kristen), Scott Ellis, Kyle West, and Brian West (Christin); her great grandchildren Jaxon and Jordyn, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan, and her nine older siblings.
A memorial service will be held at a later date determined by her family.
Rest in peace, dear Ma. You will be forever missed and always remembered.
