Ann M. Dernbach (Mitchell), 83, of East Stroudsburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her
loving family on Friday, July 17, 2026, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She is now reunited with her
beloved husband, Robert E. Dernbach, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on April 23, 1943, in Easton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Rasley) Mitchell.
A caregiver to her core, Ann spent 27 years nurturing young minds as an infant-toddler teacher at ABC
Daycare in East Stroudsburg. She also proudly served as a Walmart cashier for over 20 years, where she built
lasting connections and always looked forward to seeing her regular Sunday customers.
She is survived by her three children, Lisa DiGenova of East Stroudsburg, Joseph Mitchell of Sedona, AZ, and
Robert H. “Bobby” Dernbach of East Stroudsburg; four grandchildren, Amanda Roberts (Benjamin) of
Georgetown, IN, Philip DiGenova of East Stroudsburg, Selena DiGenova (Nick DeLuca) of Wind Gap, and
Danielle Mitchell of Marshalls Creek; five great-grandchildren, Lily Bain, August Bain, Sophia DiGenova, Philip
W. DiGenova, and Annelyse DiGenova; her two sisters, Helen Gara of Easton and Lucy Storm of Bethlehem;
many cherished nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lucky.
She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Kenneth Mitchell, Donald Mitchell, and Howard Mitchell; and
her son-in-law, Philip DiGenova.
A memorial service will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, at the Bensing-Thomas Funeral
Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg.
In honor of Ann’s vibrant spirit, the family kindly requests that attendees wear tie-dye. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to AWSOM animal shelter in Stroudsburg.
