Alverna Mae Mayer

Alverna Mae Mayers, of Wind Gap, who would've turned 77 on May 19th, joined the Lord on May 11, 2017. She and her husband Ernest W. Mayers shared over 60 years of marriage. Alverna was born in Easton, PA. She was the daughter of the late Woodrow W. And Mary (Johnson) Counterman Sr. She is finally remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Survivors: son , Robert (Bobby) Mayers and his wife Louetta; daughter, Lori A. (Mayers) Shuman and her husband Alfred; son, Todd M. Mayers and his wife Amy; and pre-deceased by a daughter, Kelly Jo in childbirth. One grandson, Robert A, 4 granddaughters: Annie, Vicky, Kimberly, and Christine. 5 great-grandchildren: Brittany, Jacob, Kyle, Lydia and Reve. 2 sisters, Lila Metz and her husband Terry, and Cindy Buss and her husband Darrell. One brother Raymond (Buddy) Counterman and his wife Kathy. Predeceased by two brothers Woodrow W. Counterman Jr., and Willard (Butch) Counterman, and 3 sisters: Elsie V. Mack, Delores A. Knecht, and Janet L. Repsher. Prior to retirement, Alverna worked in various blouse mills; owned a deli; was a waitress and a homemaker. Her interests were: making crafts, baking, collecting angel figurines, going to the casino, visiting parks, reading, corresponding with her fb friends, family picnics and functions, canning foods, playing cards and games, and mostly spending time with her family. Alverna always enjoyed having people around her. She opened her arms and heart to anyone and everyone, as she took in many homeless from the area. She will sadly be missed by all who knew her. Now she is a beautiful angel just like her collection, and the baby angel, Kelly, she lost. They are together once again. A small service of music, prayers & positive memories was held at the hospital with Alverna's requested and closest family & friends in attendance. There will not be any further calling hours. The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street Stroudsburg is in charge of the arrangements
